Introduction to Spiritual Ayurveda
- February 2nd 12:30pm-2:30pm
- w/Melissa McKim E-RYT, RM
Ayurveda, the sister science of yoga, was developed over 5000 years ago. Its premise is that we, as individuals, are made up of the 5 Elements that combine to make 3 Dosha’s (Vatta, Pitta, and Kapha). Each person is born with a unique balance of the 3 Dosha’s (Prakruti). Throughout our lives, diet and lifestyle can cause an imbalance of the Dosha’s (Vikruti). In this workshop we will discuss the Dosha’s in depth and why they are important from a yoga practice perspective. We will also learn about the Ayurvedic clock and lifestyle and how it can determine when and what styles of yoga we practice. Special Ayurvedic treats will be provided. Please advise if you have any food allergies.
Please note: I am not an Ayurvedic doctor and only a practitioner. If you are looking for an Ayurvedic doctor, there are a few in the Boston area that I can recommend.
Yoga for Anxiety (Adults and Teens)
February 8th 6:15pm-8:00pm
w/Melissa McKim, E-RYT, RM
Do you suffer from anxiety and/or panic attacks? Is it making you depressed? Are fear and worry taking control of your mind?
If so, I’m here to share my story of how all of these stopped my life 19 years ago. I am not a doctor or a therapist but am able to share with you the many tools that helped me stop the vicious cycle. These tools included laughter, yoga and mindfulness, diet, sleep and lifestyle changes.
As a yoga instructor, I continue to learn new skills and can now fully understand and be able to explain how yoga and these other tools have helped me lead the past 19 years of my life panic attack free and to stop the fear and worry cycle before it turns into ANXIETY.
In this workshop, you will learn specific Hatha yoga poses that are energetically calming as well as pranayama that activates the parasympathetic nervous system. You will learn the ‘Body Scan’ as taught in the MBSR (mindful based stress reduction) program. We will also practice meditation.
Please plan on bringing a bottle of water, a notebook if you would like, and dress comfortably as we will be moving: practicing poses (asanas) and breath work (pranayama) intended to calm the body and mind.
