Thai Yoga Stretching (“Yogassage”) is an ancient form of stretching thought to have been developed by Buddhist monks in Thailand 2,500 years ago.
It was passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension, and balance the body’s energy systems.
Thai stretching normally takes place on a futon mat on the floor with the client wearing loose or stretchy clothing such as yoga gear.
The teacher uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet together with a variety of sequences and techniques on clients who are either lying face-up, face-down, seated, or on their side.
There is constant body contact between the teacher and the client. But rather than rubbing muscles the body is compressed, pulled, stretched, and rocked.
As in yoga, please check with your primary care physician before partaking in a Thai stretching session. Inform your teacher of any injuries, or physical conditions that they need to be aware of. Thai Yogassage is considered ‘bodywork’ and does not fall under the Therapeutic Massage licensing requirements

Laura Hanson bio~ Aquarian Dream ~ Massage by Laura
I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2006. I believe in the body’s innate ability to heal itself. I combine this notion with my clinical education from the Massage Institute of New England in order to provide clients with a thorough, relaxing, and effective massage. I understand that every person has unique challenges and preferences during massage. I pride myself in being able to hone into the needs of each individual. Through compassionate and careful listening I address physical and energetic issues, move energy, soften stubborn muscles and promote healing through a balance of mind, body, movement and breath. Over the years, I have helped many people find relief from head, neck, and shoulder tension, back, knee, ankle and TMJ related pain. I specialize in Swedish relaxation massage, massage for pain management and prenatal massage. I continue my learning so I can provide the best results for what the client needs in the moment. I enjoy drawing from various modalities to create an individualized experience that will help each client feel their best.
