Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that can assist in clearing blockages in the subtle energetic body. During a reiki energy session, the client remains fully clothed while the practitioner lightly places lays hands on certain parts of the body to facilitate the flow of energy.
Thai Yoga Bodywork is an ancient form of stretching thought to have been developed by Buddhist monks in Thailand 2,500 years ago. It was passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension, and balance the body’s energy systems.
Thai stretching normally takes place on a futon mat on the floor with the client wearing loose or stretchy clothing such as yoga gear. The teacher uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet together with a variety of sequences and techniques on clients who are either lying face-up, face-down, seated, or on their side. There is constant body contact between the teacher and the client. But rather than rubbing muscles the body is compressed, pulled, stretched, and rocked.
As in yoga, please check with your primary care physician before partaking in a Thai stretching session. Inform your teacher of any injuries, or physical conditions that they need to be aware of. Thai Bodywork is considered ‘bodywork’ & does not fall under the Therapeutic Massage licensing requirements.
