E-RYT 500, 50hr Yin YTT w/Bernie Clark, MBSR, Reiki Master Teacher, Studying at Radiant Living -Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Lead Teacher.

Melissa started practicing yoga in 1999 during a period of debilitating anxiety and panic attacks. Yoga, particularly the breath work, brought her back to life quickly and she has practiced ever since. Melissa's classes focus on the function of asana over form and how to use the body and breath to connect to the mind. Melissa believes in living in alignment with nature and the Ayurvedic clock. She believes that anyone can practice yoga, yet not all styles of yoga are right for everyone's unique bodies.

My goal is to make every person who enters my class welcome.  I truly believe that yoga is for everyone.  This ancient art of healing not only promotes strength and flexibility, but also reduces stress and anxiety.  Pranayama (breathing techniques) and meditation are incorporated to create a complete mind/body experience.

Classes are designed for all levels.  Modifications are offered for beginners as well as challenges for more advanced yogis.  Hands on assistance is provided throughout class to help you achieve your personal yoga goals and to keep your joints and muscles safe in each asana (posture).  All classes conclude with a savasana (a relaxation) to rest and restore your body.  Massage and aromatherapy are used to bring your physical body into a deeper state of relaxation and to prepare your mind for a meditative state.

Yoga is my passion.  I put my heart and soul into each and every class that I teach.  Please come share your practice with me.  I promise to do my best to help you find balance in your life through this beautiful art of yoga- body, mind and spirit.

Namaste

It took me sixteen years of dreaming, and four years of planning, to become a yoga instructor. My classes are open-hearted, friendly, and accessible to all; my teaching style mirrors my personality. I love creating community through yoga. My inclusive style of instruction invites students to explore movement and breath with safe physical alignment and energetic awareness, allowing participants to discover their own peace, power, and presence. I believe that the practice of yoga teaches us skills to become compassionate citizens of the world.

My journey into the world of yoga began 15 years ago with an e-mail from a friend asking me to try out a brand new yoga studio.  My initial response was "no" as I was much too busy for that nonsense.  My friend persuaded me to come & I was instantly hooked.  I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training at the Sanctuary in Plymouth (same studio that I had that first class in) about 7 years ago and it changed my life.

My goal is to share what I love most about yoga; strengthening of the body & mind, calming,  balancing physically & emotionally and helping you find your path to a happier you.  Unplug & Be Mindful (created by Melissa McKim) is a remarkable place where all are welcome & I am proud to be a part of the studio.
